PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The responsibility of a Continuing Education Instructor is to provide the most effective instruction possible in his/her discipline. Supervision is received from appropriate supervisor. The Continuing Education Instructor works to ensure that his/her instruction is meeting the educational needs of all students. Continuing Education Instructors are hired in a part-time capacity, contingent upon the needs of the department. Classes are offered during daytime, evenings, and weekends as well as some College holidays. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year as well as at various campuses and offsite.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Administrative duties of this position:
- Keeps accurate records of student attendance for the entire scheduled course or program and completes and submits roll by the required deadline
- Develop and obtain approval of course syllabus
- Present a course syllabus on the first day of class
- Makes arrangement with the Continuing Education Department for covering classes when scheduling an absence in advance of absence
- Assumes the responsibility for the physical condition of classrooms and to report needs to the building supervisor
- Provides grade reports to CE staff
- Meets submission deadlines for grading and all other course folder documents
2. Teaching responsibilities of this position:
- Instructs students in courses assigned, using approved textbooks
- Meets all classes regularly and promptly as scheduled and for the full duration of each class period
- Participates in the department's review of all course offerings
- Upgrades the education program by evaluating course content, student needs, and instructional methods and making recommendations for improvement
- Teaches assigned courses at times, locations, and in classrooms as assigned
- Prepares, organizes and delivers course material in effective manner
- Provides written course outlines to students and to appropriate supervisor
- Instructs students as necessary in compliance with all identified ADA accommodations recognized by the WCJC Office of Students with Disabilities
3. Other professional duties of this position:
- Adheres to policies published in the Regulations Manual
- Follows college policies regarding work schedules, published in the, Regulations Manual, Employment Agreement, and other official college documents
- Reviews and makes recommendations for the improvement of the education program, the college's learning environment, and related services
- Familiarizes oneself with the purpose of the college and with college policies and procedures
- Assumes special responsibilities or assignments from supervisors
- Secures a copy of the Student Handbook and becomes familiar with and knowledgeable of its contents
- Reports absences to appropriate supervisor
- Demonstrates commitment to the profession and students
- Demonstrates professionalism at all levels (national, regional, local, collegiate)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:
This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of current full time work experience as a medical assistant in the required fields of technique or minmum of one (1) year of current full time work experience in the required fields of technique and a medical assistant certification. A criminal background check is also required.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
The Part Time Continuing Education Instructor - Medical Assistant must be able to supervise the training of nurse aides while in the clinical setting.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Part Time Continuing Education Instructor – Medical Assistant is responsible and accountable to the Director of Continuing Education.
EQUIPMENT USED/CONTACTS:
EQUIPMENT USED:
The equipment/supplies used by this position include a whiteboard, overhead projector, computer, copy machine and other various office items. This position must also use and be familiar with various medical equipment and supplies.
CONTACTS:
External contacts of this position are with community, local, and state agencies.
Internal contacts of this position are with administrators, staff, and students.
COMPLEXITY/EFFORT:
This position must establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and other staff members. This position requires the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidential information. This position must be familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures of Wharton County Junior College (WCJC). This position requires the ability to interpret and apply College policies, regulation and procedures, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and make decisions requiring independent judgment. Professional working relationships, both with the College and the public require the person in this position to maintain a high degree of judgment, tack, and discretion at all times.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work of this position is performed in a classroom setting or environment. This position must be able to work at any WCJC campuses. This position involves heavy interaction with WCJC students, staff, and faculty and with patients at assigned nursing homes for clinical rotations. This position may require some heavy lifting associated with medical equipment and/or the care of patients.
